Serj Tankian is a Lebanese-born Armenian–American singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, poet, and political activist. He is best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, keyboardist and occasional live rhythm guitarist of the metal band System of a Down, formed in 1994 by four Armenian-American friends.
System of a Down has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, of which has won one in 2006 for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song B.Y.O.B.. The band has also been nominated for several Kerrang! and MTV awards.
Tankian's breakthrough as a solo artist came with the release of his debut record "Elect the Dead". He has since released several successful solo albums.
